A Hotspot is an access point to the Internet via a wireless local area network using a router connected to an Internet service provider. Hotspots typically employ WiFi technology.

Uses
Users can utilize a laptop, mobile telephone, or any other suitable portable device to access a hotspot via a wireless connection (WiFi usually). Of the hundreds of millions of laptops, PDAs, tablets, and mobile phones sold in recent years, most incorporate WiFi capabilities.

Hotspots are often found at restaurants, mass transit stations, airports, libraries, hotels, hospitals, cafes, bookstores, gas stations, shops, supermarkets, parks, campgrounds, public telephones, and other public places. Many universities and schools have wireless networks on their campuses.
